How it works

Three steps to an afternoon your family won't forget.

Heirloom is intentionally simple. Find a guide who carries the knowledge you want, meet in person, pay by the hour. Below is the full flow — for families looking for a guide, and for people who want to pass on what they know.

STEP 01

Find someone who carries the knowledge

Search by skill, location, and age. Every guide is background-checked and reference-verified — and every one of them has spent real time doing the work they teach.

STEP 02

Book an in-person session

Pick a time that works. A parent or guardian attends every session — no exceptions. Sessions happen at a guide's home studio, your kitchen, or a community space.

STEP 03

Pay fairly, learn deeply

Guides earn $25–$75 per hour. You only pay after the session, and your child walks away with a real skill and the story behind it.

What you can learn or teach

Knowledge that doesn't fit in a classroom.

Heirloom welcomes lost techniques, living crafts, and new ways of making — as long as you've genuinely done the work and can teach it in person.

For families

Find a guide your child will learn from.

  1. 01

    Create your family profile

Set up a free account to use Heirloom. Takes a couple of minutes - name, neighborhood, and a parent contact so guides know who they're meeting.

  2. 02

    Tell us about your family

Your child's age and interests, your neighborhood, and how hands-on you'd like to be. Most parents end up learning something too.

  3. 03

    Browse a curated shortlist

Read profiles, watch a 60-second intro video, and find someone who feels right. Every guide is background-checked before they ever appear here.

  4. 04

    Free 15-minute meet & greet

Video call before the first paid session. No pressure if it's not the right fit.

  5. 05

    Book by the hour

Pay only after the session. Cancel free up to 24 hours ahead. Bring a coffee - you're staying for this one.

  1. 01

    Build your profile

Tell your story, list your craft or skill, add photos of your work or workshop.

  2. 02

    Pass our trust review

Background check, references, a 30-minute interview with our team (in person or by video), and a review of photos and a safety questionnaire about the space you'll host learners in.

  3. 03

    Set your rate & schedule

$25–$75/hr based on your tier. Choose the days and locations you'll teach. Optionally, publish a small add-on (e.g. +$15) if a parent wants to participate hands-on.

  4. 04

    Welcome a young learner

A parent is always present - some watch, and some choose to participate alongside their child. When setting your rate, consider whether you can accommodate an extra hands-on learner. Direct deposit weekly; you keep 85% of every booking.
