Safety Policy & Community Rules.

[LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED] — Placeholder policy. Have counsel confirm mandatory-reporter language, background-check disclosures (FCRA), and any state-specific childcare rules before publication.

1. Mentor screening

Every mentor completes identity verification through Stripe Identity and a background check through our third-party provider before their first booking. Coverage and cadence are described in the mentor agreement.

2. Parent-present rule

For any session involving a child under 13, a parent or legal guardian must be on the premises for the entire session. For older minors, the parent must remain reachable and available. We do not permit unsupervised drop-off.

3. Insurance

Mentors are required to carry general liability insurance appropriate to their craft before opening their calendar. See our internal notes at docs/mentor-insurance-research.md for how coverage is layered.

4. What families should expect

  • Age-appropriate tools and safety equipment.
  • A clear session plan communicated in advance.
  • A safe, clean workspace and clear emergency exit.
  • No firearms, drugs, or alcohol during a session.

5. Reporting a concern

If you feel unsafe or witness anything of concern, stop the session immediately. Report it in-app through the "Report a concern" button on your booking, or email safety@heirloomlearn.com. In an emergency, call 911 first.

6. Mandatory reporting

Mentors are required to comply with any mandatory-reporter obligations applicable in their jurisdiction. Heirloom cooperates fully with lawful requests from child-welfare and law-enforcement agencies.
