Growing Confidence: Garden Lessons from Lavender & Sage Homestead
Sabrina Doss broke gardening into manageable steps on her Cave Springs homestead — now she teaches them in backyards, greenhouses, and workshops across Northwest Arkansas.
Lavender & Sage Homestead

Ask Sabrina Doss how she learned to garden and she won't describe a course or a certificate. She'll describe years of hands-on gardening, research, experimentation, and — in her own words — plenty of trial and error. That path turned her Cave Springs property into Lavender & Sage Homestead, a working business raising vegetables, herbs, and flowers and making herbal products, including salves and balms.
It also taught her the thing she now teaches: growing and creating with plants can feel intimidating until someone breaks it into manageable steps.
A session that explains the how and the why
A session with Sabrina is relaxed, practical, and interactive. She explains both the "how" and the "why" behind every step, demonstrates each one clearly, and welcomes questions along the way. Students leave with a plan they can actually follow — and, more importantly, the confidence to continue on their own.

Coaching happens where you grow
Most of Sabrina's one-on-one coaching happens in the learner's own garden. She'll walk your beds with you, diagnose what's struggling, plan what to plant next, and show techniques on your own soil rather than a demonstration plot. It's the fastest way to get better: the advice applies to the exact sunlight, drainage, and soil you have.
Beyond backyard coaching, she teaches groups at churches and businesses across Northwest Arkansas — including sessions for Best Friends Animal Society, Oak Hollow Market, and Bentonville Mercantile — and hosts hands-on workshops at the homestead. Her kokedama workshops, where guests plant a living moss ball garden, have become a favorite for small celebrations.
Start smaller than you think
If you've been putting off growing anything, Sabrina's implicit advice is all over her teaching: start with a bed you can reach, a crop you actually eat, and one season at a time. Potatoes in a bucket, herbs by the door, a single raised bed — confidence compounds faster than square footage.
